Using Kansei Engineering for the Design Thinking Framework: Bamboo Pen Holder Product Design

Recently, as a potential source of stationery products, bamboo has been continuously excavated for its commercial value in sustainable development. The research on the design pen holder, based concept design, is not only symbol Chinese culture but also reflection perceptual factors underlying college students’ preferences. This study aims at user-centered product by integrating Design Thinking (DT) and Kansei Engineering (KE). We proposed KE–DT framework which allows designers to coordinate user’s feelings elements. With various student questionnaires, expert interviews, cluster analysis, 7 words were selected describe sentimental first. Using statistical users’ emotional preference each word was determined. Finally, best shape holder obtained Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP), stereoscopic displayed. A new round questionnaire surveys conducted with optimized container previous group. results indicated that curvature had significant effect terms user designer cognitive differences. Furthermore, designed proved widely popular.
