Using Citronella to Protect Bees (honeybee Apis mellifera L.) from certain Insecticides and Their Nano Formulations

Abstract Experiments were performed investigating citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt) as a repellent to honeybee Apis mellifera (L.) (Hymenoptera: Apidae) in Egypt, it was conducted laboratory the Department of Entomology and Pesticides Science, Faculty Agriculture, Cairo University, check long-term survival when exposed different nano insecticides alone or combined with at same examination box for each. In this study, we used modeling approach regarding data caged worker bees under chronic exposure four (Chloropyrophos, Nano-chloropyrophos Imidacloprid, Nano-Imidacloprid) each them supplemented combination citronella. Having three replicates five concentrations (100, 200, 300, 400 500 ppm). Laboratory bioassay these showed that chloropyrophos most toxic their high dose (500 ppm) LT50 120.98 122.02 followed by 132.14 136.5 minutes Imidacloprid Nano-Imidacloprid, respectively. No consumption occurred mixed sugar syrup all treatments added. These highly recommended adding is very effective nicotinoid pesticides are longevity life keep bee safe.
