Usefulness of non-native invasive tree species wood residues for pellet production

نویسندگان

چکیده

We produced pellets from five invasive non-native tree species growing in Slovenia on a laboratory pelleting device, namely: wild chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), boxelder maple (Acer negundo), black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), thorny (Gleditsia triacanthos) and of heaven (Ailanthus altissima), as well mixtures the raw material above spruce (Picea abies) ratios 70:30 50:50. Under same production conditions, we total 15 different types pellets. The most important physical mechanical properties (water content, bulk density, stability ash content) were determined for produced. results compared with limits defined international standard SIST EN ISO 17225-2:2014. water content density all pellet met requirements highest quality class A1. durability did not meet exceed 96.5% (which is limit value B). suggest that locust, have potential further optimization process.

Non-native invasive species and novel ecosystems

Invasions by non-native species have caused many extinctions and greatly modified many ecosystems and are among the major anthropogenic global changes transforming the earth. Beginning in the mid-1980s, a dramatic burst of research in invasion biology has revealed a plethora of previously unrecognized impacts and laid bare the scope of the phenomenon. Similarly, research on various methods of m...

Factors Influencing Non-Native Tree Species Distribution in Urban Landscapes

Non-native species are presumed to be pervasive across the urban landscape. Yet, we actually know very little about their actual distribution. For this study, vegetation plot data from Syracuse, NY and Baltimore, MD were used to examine non-native tree species distribution in urban landscapes. Data were collected from remnant and emergent forest patches on upland sites and riparian habitats. No...

Non-native populations of an invasive tree outperform their native conspecifics

Introduced plants often face new environmental conditions in their non-native ranges. To become invasive, they need to overcome several biotic and abiotic filters that may trigger adaptive changes in life-history traits, like post-germination processes. Such early life cycle traits may play a crucial role in the colonization and establishment success of invasive plants. As a previous study reve...
