Use of Pressurized and Airlift Bioreactors for Citric Acid Production by Yarrowia lipolytica from Crude Glycerol

چکیده
Citric acid production is generally carried out in an aqueous medium stirred tank reactors (STR), where the solubility of oxygen low and demand microbial cultures high. Thus, for this bioprocess, providing adequate mass transfer rate (OTR) from gas phase into culture main challenge bioreactor selection operation. In study, citric by Yarrowia lipolytica W29 crude glycerol, batch cultures, was performed two non-conventional bioreactors normally associated with high efficiency: a pressurized STR airlift bioreactor. Increased OTR obtained raising total air pressure increasing aeration An improvement 40% maximum titer 1 bar to 2 bar, whereas, bioreactor, 30% attained vvm 1.5 vvm. Both types can be successfully applied process using alternative ways improving than mechanical stirring power input, thus leading important operating saving costs.

Characterization of Yarrowia lipolytica and related species for citric acid production from glycerol
Twenty-seven Yarrowia lipolytica strains as well as five strains from three other species of the Yarrowia clade (Aciculoconidium aculeatum, andida hispaniensis and Candida bentonensis) were screened for citric acid production with pure glycerol as the carbon source. The cultures were rown under nitrogen-limited conditions. None of the non-Yarrowia strains produced citric acid, although they wer...
متن کاملRobust succinic acid production from crude glycerol using engineered Yarrowia lipolytica
BACKGROUND Integrating waste management with fuels and chemical production is considered to address the food waste problem and oil crisis. Approximately, 600 million tonnes crude glycerol is produced from the biodiesel industry annually, which is a top renewable feedstock for succinic acid production. To meet the increasing demand for succinic acid production, the development of more efficient ...
متن کاملA comparative study on glycerol metabolism to erythritol and citric acid in Yarrowia lipolytica yeast cells.
Citric acid and erythritol biosynthesis from pure and crude glycerol by three acetate-negative mutants of Yarrowia lipolytica yeast was investigated in batch cultures in a wide pH range (3.0-6.5). Citric acid biosynthesis was the most effective at pH 5.0-5.5 in the case of Wratislavia 1.31 and Wratislavia AWG7. With a decreasing pH value, the direction of biosynthesis changed into erythritol sy...
متن کاملSubstrates and oxygen dependent citric acid production by Yarrowia lipolytica: insights through transcriptome and fluxome analyses
BACKGROUND Unlike the well-studied backer yeast where catabolite repression represents a burden for mixed substrate fermentation, Yarrowia lipolytica, an oleaginous yeast, is recognized for its potential to produce single cell oils and citric acid from different feedstocks. These versatilities of Y. lipolytica with regards to substrate utilization make it an attractive host for biorefinery appl...
متن کاملEngineering Yarrowia lipolytica for Enhanced Production of Lipid and Citric Acid
Increasing demand for plant oil for food, feed, and fuel production has led to food-fuel competition, higher plant lipid cost, and more need for agricultural land. On the other hand, the growing global production of biodiesel has increased the production of glycerol as a by-product. Efficient utilization of this by-product can reduce biodiesel production costs. We engineered Yarrowia lipolytica...
