Urban Forest Locations and Patch Characteristics Regulate PM2.5 Mitigation Capacity

چکیده
Atmospheric pollution caused by fine particulate matter (PM2.5) seriously damages human health. Urban forests have the ecological function of purifying atmosphere, which can effectively reduce ambient PM2.5 concentration. This paper analyzed ability different forest types to mitigate and explored effects quality morphological parameters on concentration patch level. The results concluded that Landscape Relaxation Forest (LF) was significantly lower than Roadside (RF) Affiliated (AF) due environmental their location. effective distance LF reduction 80 m, higher RF AF. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), indicated growth status, most parameter for improving urban mitigation ability. decreased linearly with increase in NDVI. area perimeter patches had a significant nonlinear negative correlation In addition, more irregular shape patch, forest. Moreover, simpler AF helped alleviate pollution. round efficiently reduced Our study demonstrated surrounding environment, forms determined capacity an corresponding management adjustment methods should be implemented future management.

At the beginning of the 1900s, the Canberra plain was largely treeless. Graziers had carried out extensive clearing of the original trees since the 1820s leaving only scattered remnants and some plantings near homesteads. With the selection of Canberra as the site for the new capital of Australia, extensive tree plantings began in 1911. These trees have delivered a number of benefits, including...

The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision in Roper v. Simmons [1] and the amicus briefs submitted in support of abolishing the death penalty for juveniles suggests that neuroscientific evidence will play an increasingly important role in shaping legal concepts of culpability [2]. As we saw in Chapter 9, neuroscience is already beginning to play an important role in insanity defense proceedings. ...

Background. After discharge from an acute care setting, elderly cardiac patients take a variety of medications in the horne setting. Their pharmacologic regimens are often quite complex, and may involve drugs from several therapeutic categories. Patterns of medication use can be one measure of patient status after discharge because they can indicate whether medical conditions are stabilized. A ...
متن کاملOptimal Spatial Design of Capacity and Quantity of Rainwater Harvesting Systems for Urban Flood Mitigation
This study adopts rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS) into a stormwater runoff management model (SWMM) for the spatial design of capacities and quantities of rain barrel for urban flood mitigation. A simulation-optimization model is proposed for effectively identifying the optimal design. First of all, we particularly classified the characteristic zonal subregions for spatial design by using fu...
متن کاملFlood Characteristics and Mitigation Issues
Among various natural disasters floods make the largest impact in terms of number of casualties, people affected and property lost. Flood data during the past 30 years show that flood events that cause significant impacts have increased at a steady rate. Available data suggest that this increase could be attributed to increasing population and exposure, increasing property values located in vul...
