The labial frenulum, or frenum, is one of the components oral mucosa that can be found in both upper and lower mucosa. When it does not develop correctly, present anomalies. It common among parents, caregivers, even healthcare professionals to have some difficulty managing improperly inserted frenula, as well addressing their potential consequences. most measure for this alteration frenectomy, which a surgery completely removes frenulum with abnormalities. However, there still much study determine best age when indicate frenectomy. objective work review literature frenectomy pediatric dental patients. To do this, PubMed, Google Scholar, SciELO, Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases were consulted, using boolean operator OR descriptors: lip, surgery, dentistry, child. A period between 2013 2022 was also limited article publication. total 2049 articles found, 642 from 412 469 526 (BVS). only 13 chosen due richness content within theme. All duplicated diverged proposed theme, theses, dissertations, monographs, excluded work. In addition articles, two books by renowned authors published 2016, contributed Upon analysis books, significant discussion who treat anomalies frenulae; advocate early while others approach caution. Thus, an evident need more multidisciplinary studies focused on age-related results recommend children.
