Unwelcome Guest: PBDEs in Indoor Dust
Although house dust is known to be a predominant source of exposure to PBDEs, it's not yet clear which part of the dust these chemicals bind to. The dust pictured above contains pet hair (rust brown), pollen (yellow), plant fibers (green), dead skin cells (light to medium brown), dirt and minerals (orange), textile fibers (blue), and spider silk (pink).

Editor: Drs. Kapoor and Williams brought an important matter to our attention, with which I am in agreement, given some 45 years of general and forensic practice. I was surprised that a commentary was not presented, especially by a practitioner of both psychoanalysis and forensics. My education and practice have been guided by psychoanalytic theory for both psychotherapy and forensic examinatio...
متن کاملAn unwelcome guest: the unconscious mind in the courtroom.
A generation ago, psychiatrists did not hesitate to discuss psychodynamic concepts and their application to forensic practice. Many of the pioneers of forensic psychiatry, including Manfred Guttmacher in the United States and Edward Glover in the United Kingdom, were trained as psychoanalysts, and naturally this training had an impact on the development of the field. Not only were psychodynamic...
متن کاملWithin-room and within-building temporal and spatial variations in concentrations of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in indoor dust.
Within-house and within-room spatial temporal variability in PBDE contamination of indoor dust may influence substantially the reliability of human exposure assessments based on single point samples, but have hitherto been little studied. This paper reports concentrations of PBDEs 17, 28, 47, 49, 66, 85, 99, 100, 153, and 154 in indoor dust samples (n=112) from two houses in Birmingham, UK. To ...
متن کاملPolybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in house dust in Beijing, China.
Eleven house dust samples were collected in Beijing to quantify 42 different polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Total PBDEs concentrations ranged from 140 to 1,300 ng g(-1). The dominant PBDEs congener identified was BDE 209, which made up more than 70% of all PBDEs congeners. Concentrations of PBDEs in Chinese house dust were lower than in other countries. The most polluted areas were ele...
