چکیده
Understanding the microstructure-property correlation is critical for performance evaluation of in-service materials and development advanced nuclear reactor applications. Experimental studies are challenging which often hazardous. Recent developments in high-energy synchrotron X-ray (HEX) techniques offer potential to address this challenge, by providing direct observations internal responses external stimuli bulk-like materials, through situ or 3D measurements. In review, HEX introduced recent applications presented. The results unprecedented insights into provide unique input computational models.

Texture and Microstructure Analysis with High-energy Synchrotron Radiation
Diffraction of high-energy synchrotron radiation with wavelengths in the range of 0.1Ǻ, provided by the beamline BW5 at HASYLAB in Hamburg, was used to measure textures (orientation distribution) and microstructures (spatial distribution) of the crystallites in various polycrystalline materials. In order to achieve extremely high angularcombined with very high lateral resolution a continuous sw...
متن کاملSynchrotron X-ray Analytical Techniques for Studying Materials Electrochemistry in Rechargeable Batteries.
Rechargeable battery technologies have ignited major breakthroughs in contemporary society, including but not limited to revolutions in transportation, electronics, and grid energy storage. The remarkable development of rechargeable batteries is largely attributed to in-depth efforts to improve battery electrode and electrolyte materials. There are, however, still intimidating challenges of low...
متن کاملNuclear Fluorescence Using High-energy Synchrotron Radiation
We present some measurements of nuclear fluorescence which were made while exploring the potential of a unique source of very hard x-rays which was installed at ESRF until recently. It produced radiation of energies up to 1MeV. In this range there are many nuclear resonances, and so we made a small survey of some plausible candidates to see if they could indeed be excited using this source. Alo...
متن کاملRecent progress on synchrotron-based in-situ soft X-ray spectroscopy for energy materials.
Soft X-ray spectroscopy (SXS) techniques such as photoelectron spectroscopy, soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray emission spectroscopy are efficient and direct tools to probe electronic structures of materials. Traditionally, these surface sensitive soft X-ray techniques that detect electrons or photons require high vacuum to operate. Many recent in situ instrument developments of thes...
متن کاملHigh-energy x-ray micro-mapping of materials: engineering applications
Introduction and organization The use of synchrotron based high-energy x-ray scattering in materials/engineering programs is relatively new to both the synchrotron and engineering communities in the United States. In Europe such efforts are more advanced with engineering beam lines existent or under construction at ESRF in France, at PETRA III in Germany, and at Diamond in England. The industri...
