Unsteady load mitigation through a passive trailing-edge flap

چکیده

There are a wide range of applications in which it is desirable to mitigate unsteady load fluctuations while preserving mean loading. This often achieved with active control systems, but passive systems sometimes more for enhancing reliability. the case, example, wind and tidal turbines, where loading limits fatigue life turbine results power peaks at generator. Here, we consider mitigation that can be through foil trailing-edge flap connected via torsional spring. We develop theoretical model show preload tuned preserve The spring moment maximises approximately constant, fluctuation reduction linearly proportional ratio full chord foil. verify this relationship water tunnel tests hinge 25% from trailing edge. As theoretically predicted, measure up 25%, without any variation load. In highly flow conditions, when boundary layer separation occurs, decreases. Overall conclude flaps effective alleviating their effectiveness depends on size relative

An investigation of unsteady 3D effects on trailing edge flaps

The present study investigates the impact of unsteady and viscous three-dimensional aerodynamic effects on a wind turbine blade with trailing edge flap by means of CFD. Harmonic oscillations are simulated on the DTU 10 MW rotor with a flap of 10% chord extent ranging from 70% to 80% blade radius. The deflection frequency is varied in the range between 1p and 6p. To quantify 3D effects, rotor si...

Unsteady Aerodynamics and Trailing-edge Vortex Sheet of An Airfoil

Unsteady flow models of wings and airfoils have been studied to understand the aerodynamic performance of natural flyers and provide improved maneuverability for micro aerial vehicles (MAVs). Vortex methods have been extensively applied to reduce the dimensionality of these aerodynamic models, based on the proper estimation of the distribution and evolution of the vortices in the wake. In such ...

Unsteady RANS Simulation of High Reynolds Number Trailing Edge Flow

Unsteady vortex shedding at a trailing edge may cause pressure fluctuations and strong tonal noise which can have important consequences to the performance of marine and aeronautical type lifting surfaces. This paper presents data from unsteady RANS simulation of high Reynolds number trailing edge flow. It aims to identify and quantify dominant features of the trailing edge flow field over a tw...

Morphing Trailing Edge Flap for High Lift Wing

This paper presents the study conducted to design and analyze a morphing trailing edge flap structure for a large aircraft wing. The rear part of the trailing edge flap was modified to be integrated with a set of internal actuation mechanisms distributed along the span of the flap. Additional changes to the conventional flap structure were implemented, such as an open sliding trailing edge and ...
