Myxopapillary Ependymoma of the Cauda Equina in a 5-Year-Old Boy
Myxopapillary ependymoma in childhood typically occurs in the central nervous system. There are few surgical cases of myxopapillary ependymoma of the cauda equina in children. We report a case of myxopapillary ependymoma of the cauda equina in a 5-year-old boy, who presented with leg pain and abnormal gait. Subtotal resection surgery was performed. Following the subtotal tumor resection, follow...
متن کاملMetastasizing ependymoma of the cauda equina.
A case of metastasizing ependymoma is described, only the second in the British literature. The tumour, which arose in the cauda equina, spread to humerus and pleura over a period of 32 years. It is postulated that, in common with most of the previously reported cases, dissemination was a direct consequence of either surgical intervention or radiotherapy since neither the primary tumour nor its...
متن کاملThe many faces of primary cauda equina myxopapillary ependymoma: clinicoradiological manifestations of two cases and review of the literature
Introduction: Myxopapillary ependymoma (MPE) is a benign and slow growing tumor that originates exclusively from the conus medullaris and cauda equina nervous tissue. It occurs more commonly in young patients. In addition, clinical presentations are non-specific and may mimic benign conditions. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging modality of choice for evaluating this tumor. We here...
متن کاملExtraneural metastases in ependymoma of the cauda equina.
A case of ependymoma of the cauda equina, presumably originating from the filum terminale in a girl aged 17 at the onset of illness, eventually developed remote metastases in the lungs, pleura, and one para-aortic lymph node. This case is compared with three other previously reported examples. The unusual features in the present instance were (1) the total length of the clinical history, amount...
متن کاملEpendymoma of the cauda equina presenting with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
A 16-year-old girl had an ependymoma at the L2 and L3 level that bled into the dural sac, presenting clinically as intracranial subarachnoid hemorrhage. MR depicted the tumor and hemorrhage on both T1- and T2*-weighted images. The blood in the dural sac appeared hyperintense on the T1-weighted images.
