Unravelling the “Black Box”: Treatment-Staff Perceptions of Hermon Prison’s Drug-Rehabilitation Program

This current qualitative study analyzed treatment-staff perceptions of the advantages and weaknesses Israeli’s primary prison-based drug rehabilitation program, as implemented in Hermon Prison Israel. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 social workers recovery mentors who worked therapists during research period. The analysis showed that main described program was varied (included psychotherapy, education, vocational training, work) required a 1-year stay therapeutic community setting, intensive exposure to eclectic psychotherapy methods delivered prison is organizationally architecturally designed serve treatment goals. perceived shortages staff (staff turnover high), individual psychological therapy follow-up community. suggests reducing these deficiencies may improve program’s effectiveness, it offers an initial theoretical model for creating effective program.
