Unraveling Pathophysiological Link Between Mitophagy Pathway and Vascular Dementia

چکیده

Context: Vascular dementia (VaD) is the second most common type of after Alzheimer’s disease worldwide. a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by gradual cognitive impairment. Ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes result in VaD, markedly distributing cerebral blood flow decreasing patients’ memory performance. Due to their high energy demands, neurons are more sensitive cellular architecture changes exposed mitochondrial stress than other cell types. Mitochondrial dysfunction selective autophagy mitochondria, known as mitophagy, associated with VaD. This review aims elucidate association between mitophagy Evidence Acquisition: was conducted independently at least two researchers dominant various VaD studies. We searched databases including Elsevier, Google Scholar, PubMed using terms ‘vascular dementia’, impairment’, ‘mitophagy’. evaluated 70 articles on relationship interpreted results. Adobe Photoshop 2022 used for drawing figures researchers. Results: The process plays protective role experimental models via preserving vascular integrity structure blood-brain barrier, upregulating occludin claudin protein expressions, reducing oxidative stress, dysfunction. Some studies claim that could have adverse effects time-dependent manner against neuronal injury. Prolonged overexpressed autophagic proteins induce ischemic injury cause cells undergo apoptotic death. Conclusions: Although there limited activation mitophagy-related pathways definitive healing unclear, further research needed neurons.

Mitophagy: mechanisms, pathophysiological roles, and analysis.

Abstract Mitochondria are essential organelles that regulate cellular energy homeostasis and cell death. The removal of damaged mitochondria through autophagy, a process called mitophagy, is thus critical for maintaining proper cellular functions. Indeed, mitophagy has been recently proposed to play critical roles in terminal differentiation of red blood cells, paternal mitochondrial degradatio...

Pulmonary vascular overreactivity in systemic hypertension. A pathophysiological link between the greater and the lesser circulation.

This study was undertaken to test whether the emphasized systemic vasomotion during sympathetic activation in hypertension is shared by the pulmonary circulation. To this end, 10 normotensive and 29 primary hypertensive subjects were investigated during adrenergic stimulation by mental arithmetic and cold pressor test. Both stimuli induced a systemic pressor reaction in both groups, which was m...

Genetic Susceptibility to Vascular Dementia: a Pathophysiological View

Genetic studies on vascular dementia (VaD) are scarce. Beyond the monogenic disorders, there is a growing interest in identifying genetic variants associated with sporadic VaD. In 2006, the NINDS-CNS recommended that candidate genes of VaD may include both genes implicated in vascular disease conditions in relation to stroke and cognitive impairment and genes that affect the response of the bra...

Unraveling the Link Between Periodontitis and Cardiovascular Disease

T his report of recent data from the Oral Infections and Vascular Disease Epidemiology Study (INVEST) study adds to an already substantial body of epidemiologic evidence for an association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and periodontal disease. Important questions regarding this association remain unanswered: What is the nature of the association? Does one disease influence the pathogenes...
