Underwater target detection using a pair of omnidirectional transducers in extremely shallow water

چکیده

In extremely shallow water, such as bays and inlets, active sonar may not work sufficiently well to detect underwater threats owing multiple reflections strong reverberations at the sea surface seafloor. this study, we developed "gate sonar" on basis of a unique method detecting changes in pulse signal propagated between pair omnidirectional transducers surveyed area when target passes transducers. To received signal, employed time-reversed source for gate sonar; can be created even from by using virtual array formed bottom boundaries. As result experiments 25 m-long swimming pool, confirmed that recognize functions designed. Furthermore, applying convolutional neural network (CNN) waveform its spectrogram input images, demonstrated proposed time reversal mirror (TRM)-based improve detection targets, with performing slightly better.

Performance of Time Reversal Based Underwater Target Detection in Shallow Water

In this paper, a scheme based on the time reversal technique is proposed to improve the detection performance for detecting a cylindrical object bottoming at the seafloor in shallow water. When the time reversal technique is applied to the response of the clutter with the strong time-varying characteristic of shallow water, it is difficult to obtain a high peak response. However, in the case wh...

Properties of underwater acoustic communication channels in shallow water.

Underwater acoustic channels are band-limited and reverberant, posing many obstacles to reliable, phase-coherent acoustic communications. While many high frequency communication experiments have been conducted in shallow water, few have carried out systematic studies on the channel properties at a time scale relevant for communications. To aid communication system design, this paper analyzes at...

Target Strength Measurements in Shallow Water

A submarine on patrol needs to know how far it can be detected by active sonar. In order for such sonar performance calculations to be useful the target strength (TS) of the submarine must be known. Measurements done in deep water indicate that TS can vary as much as 20 dB as a function of aspect angle. This corresponds to a doubling of the detection distance in a noise limited environment, and...

Active Sonar Detection in Shallow Water Using the Page Test

The use of active sonar in shallow water results in received echoes that may be considerably spread in time compared to the resolution of the transmitted waveform. The duration and structure of the spreading and the time of occurrence of the received echo are unknown without accurate knowledge of the environment and a priori information on the location and reflection properties of the target. A...

Design of an underwater glider platform for shallow-water applications

Underwater gliders are type of autonomous underwater vehicle that glide by controlling their buoyancy and attitude using internal actuators. By changing the vehicle’s buoyancy intermittently, vertical motion can be achieved. Characteristic of glider motions include upward and downward in a saw tooth pattern, turning and gliding in a vertical spiral motion glides without using thrusters or prope...
