Understanding the rheology of kaolinite clay suspensions using Bayesian inference

چکیده

Mud is a suspension of fine-grained particles (sand, silt, and clay) in water. The interaction clay minerals mud gives rise to complex rheological behaviors, such as yield stress, thixotropy, viscoelasticity. Here, we experimentally examine the flow behaviors kaolinite suspensions, model mud, using steady shear rheometry. curves exhibit both stress hysteresis for various volume fractions ([Formula: see text]). Further understanding these requires fitting existing constitutive models, which challenging due numerous parameters. To this end, employ Bayesian inference method, Markov chain Monte Carlo, fit experimental microstructural viscoelastic model. method allows us estimate properties viscosity, relaxation time scales. comparison inherent scales suggests that suspensions are strongly weakly thixotropic at relatively low [Formula: text], while being almost inelastic purely high text]. Overall, our results provide framework predictive elucidate natural materials other structured fluids.

The Kaolinite Clay Minerals Using Infrared Emission Spectroscopy

Abs t rac t -The dehydroxylation of a series of the kaolinite clay minerals, kaolinite, halloysite and dickite, has been investigated by Fourier transform in situ infrared emission spectroscopy over a temperature range of 100 to 800 ~ at both 50 and 5 ~ intervals. Excellent correspondence was obtained between the high temperature emission spectra and FTIR absorption spectra of the quenched clay...

Improvement of Kaolinite Clay Subgrade Using Coir Fiber Waste

Abstract-Since highways are widely used modes, it is necessary that it should be maintained properly. Subgrade being the support for the whole pavement, it needs the utmost care in its construction. Many suggestions have been put forward by various scientists to improve the subgrade. The usually adopted methods are stabilization methods. This paper deals with the improvement of properties of ka...

The rheology of fibre suspensions

We review theoretical work on the rheology of fibre suspensions. We seek to clarify one or two confusions in published work and also give a small improvement to Batchelor’s formula for extensional viscosity of suspensions of long fibres between the dilute and semi-dilute régimes.

Rheology of starch–clay nanocomposites

The effects of incorporating various montmorillonite nanoclays into wheat, potato, corn, and waxy corn starch samples were examined by rheology and X-ray diffraction. The nanoclays included the hydrophilic Cloisite NaC clay as well as the more hydrophobic Cloisite 30B, 10A, and 15A clays. Frequency sweep and creep results for wheat starch–nanoclay samples at room temperature indicated that the ...

Extensional rheology of active suspensions.

A simple model is presented for the effective extensional rheology of a dilute suspension of active particles, such as self-propelled microswimmers, extending previous classical studies on suspensions of passive rodlike particles. Neglecting particle-particle hydrodynamic interactions, we characterize the configuration of the suspension by an orientation distribution, which satisfies a Fokker-P...
