Understanding Preferences for Coastal Climate Change Adaptation: A Systematic Literature Review

Lack of public support for coastal adaptation can present significant barriers implementation. In response, policy makers and academics are seeking strategies to build adaptation, which requires a deeper understanding peoples’ preferences what motives those preferences. Here, we conduct systematic literature review understand options the factors influencing these Ninety peer-reviewed publications meet inclusion criteria. The findings revealed that hard protection were often most frequently preferred, likely due desire maintain current shoreline, recreational spaces private property, perceived effectiveness options. Soft protection, including nature-based approaches, accommodation, no action next preferred Finally, retreat least strong place attachment.
