Understanding Intensity–Duration–Frequency (IDF) Curves Using IMERG Sub-Hourly Precipitation against Dense Gauge Networks

چکیده
The design storm derived from intensity–duration–frequency (IDF) curves is the main input for hydrologic analysis or hydraulic flood control. regions with higher risks due to extreme precipitation are often deficient in gauges. This study presents a detailed evaluation of IDF using IMERG Final half-hourly (V06), fitted widely used CDFs: Gumbel and MLE, MM, Pearson 3, GEV. As benchmarks following same method, we also areal average gridded constructed two dense gauges networks over (1) WegenerNET Feldbach region Alpine forelands Austria (2) gauge network Walnut Gulch Experimental Watershed, semiarid United States. In both regions, frequency return periods between 2 100 years was based on rainfall compared at grid-scale spatial resolution IMERG, 0.1° × lat/lon. impact order which gauge-based performed within an grid evaluated by computing different Annual Maximum Series (AMS). one, computed before obtaining AMS (AB-AMS), other, after each (AA-AMS) grid. revealed that agrees better AB-AMS than AA-AMS regions. Lastly, it found use distribution calculating results agreement ground truth other three distributions studied here. outcomes should provide valuable knowledge application sparse

Estimating IDF based on daily precipitation using temporal scale model
The intensity –duration –frequency (IDF) curves play most important role in watershed management, flood control and hydraulic design of structures. Conventional method for calculating the IDF curves needs hourly rainfall data in different durations which is not extensively available in many regions. Instead 24-hour precipitation statistics were measured in most rain-gauge stations. In this stud...

Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (IMERG) is an important satellite precipitation product of Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission. Quantitative information about the errors of IMERG has great significance for the data developers and end users. In order to investigate the characteristics and the source of the errors contained in IMERG, a bias-de...

Knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation is of key importance for planning a wide range of socio-economic activities such as agriculture, livestock grazing, energy generation, etc. The availability of accurate and consistent precipitation data is then paramount for the proper assessment of such activities. However, traditional rain gauge measurements are relatively sc...
