Uncertainty and detection limits of 241Pu determination by liquid scintillation counting (LSC)

چکیده
Determination of 241Pu is an essential issue for radiation protection, as it the precursor some nuclides with high radiotoxicity. a low energy beta emitter, which makes its measurement more challenging than that Pu alpha emitters. The most widely used method liquid scintillation counting (LSC). In this method, assessment radiochemical yield done by measuring sample spectrometry before being lixiviated and measured LSC. This double affects uncertainty analysis, well decision threshold detection limit, considering both components total (radiochemical lixiviation) should be contemplated. paper, quality assurance (QA) purposes, in-depth limit formulae proposed controlling correlations all parameters involved including chemical lixiviation yields, have been developed. A sensitivity analysis budget together 242Pu tracer quantity to used, ensuring at least 50% relative leaching 5%, carried out. addition, impact real value on results has done. As general conclusion, values chosen work (samples 1 g 24 h LSC), uncertainties range from 5% 30% depending activity concentration limits 14 30 Bq kg-1, values. main are net background counts obtained in LSC contaminated samples while case gross count rate calibration source highly samples. possible interference emitters signal comparison quench standard curves 3H also performed.

discussed, and he points out that merely because a disease is found to be familial in incidence does not mean it is hereditarily transmitted; leprosy, for instance, was long held to be a hereditary disease, and a law was actually proposed in the Norwegian Parliament forbidding the marriage of lepers for that reason. It was only with the discovery of the leprosy bacillus by Hansen that the true ...
متن کاملSurvey on the presence of Sr in milk samples by a validated ultra low level liquid scintillation counting (LSC) method
Sr is one of the most biologically hazardous radionuclides produced in nuclear fission processes and decays emitting high-energy beta particles turning Y. Sr is transferred from soil-plant to cow’s milk and then to humans if it is introduced into the environment. Radiostrontium is chemically similar to calcium entering the human body through several food chains and depositing in bone and blood-...
متن کاملCocktails for Liquid Scintillation Counting
It is most important to assure 4 π−geometry in liquid scintillation counting for accurate results1. Usually this can be assured by dissolution of the sample in an appropriate cocktail. The cocktail does not only contain a solvent but also at least one scintillator and surfactants for aqueous samples because aqueous samples are completely insoluble in the pure organic solvents and scintillators....
متن کاملSimultaneous determination of gross alpha, gross beta and ²²⁶Ra in natural water by liquid scintillation counting.
The determination of gross alpha, gross beta and (226)Ra activity in natural waters is useful in a wide range of environmental studies. Furthermore, gross alpha and gross beta parameters are included in international legislation on the quality of drinking water [Council Directive 98/83/EC]. In this work, a low-background liquid scintillation counter (Wallac, Quantulus 1220) was used to simultan...
