Ultrasound Guidance Superiority in Pediatric Sialorrhea Treatment With Intraglandular Botulinum Toxin Application: A Four-Year Retrospective Study

Introduction The management of sialorrhea in children with multiple disabilities is extremely important not only for aesthetic/psychosocial reasons but also functional and clinical ones. There are several recommended methods strong evidence the effectiveness intraglandular application botulinum toxin A. Materials In this four-year retrospective report, we compare two populations who received type A injections pediatric unit Physical Medicine Rehabilitation (PM&R) Department at a central hospital. were administered using either ultrasound guidance (US) or anatomical landmarks. Results Out total 29 patients neurological conditions, 16 met eligibility criteria study. study group comprised seven females (44%) nine males (56%), median age 9 years. average pre-procedure staging was four. 23 procedures performed, conducted under via landmarks (non-US). US group, statistically significant difference observed one three months post-procedure (p<0.05), six post-procedure. Conversely, no found any time point non-US group. comparison between groups supports use guidance, showing superior outcomes (p<0.05). Conclusion results align global trends seen medical publications guidelines advocating procedure. Future prospective larger-scale studies essential to validate these findings.
