Ultrasonic evaluation of muscle functional recovery following free functioning gracilis transfer, a preliminary study

چکیده
Abstract Background Ultrasonic measurement has not been utilized to assess the functional recovery of transplanted muscle. This study aimed investigate feasibility using B-ultrasound muscle following free functioning gracilis transfer. Methods From January 2009 2014, 35 patients receiving transfer treat total brachial plexus injury were enrolled. was adopted determine cross-sectional area (CSA) at rest and contraction state. The ratio pre- post-transplant CSA value state defined as bulk (MBR). (CR). Results Patients with strength M ≥ 4 had significantly higher CR1 (post-transplant), CR2 (pre-transplant), range motion (ROM, joint mobility) than those < 4. > group CR1, strength, ROM ≤ group. MBR 1 highly correlated ROM. moderately Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that a CR1/CR2 associated mobility. better groups. Conclusion can quantitatively reflect transfer, CR could be potential indicator for Level Evidence: Prognostic studies, II.

Free functional gracilis muscle transfer in children with severe sequelae from obstetric brachial plexus palsy
We present 4 children between 6 and 13 years suffering from severe sequelae after a total obstetric brachial plexus lesion resulting in a hand without functional active long finger flexion. They had successfully reanimated long finger flexion using a free functional gracilis muscle transfer. These children initially presented a total obstetric brachial plexus palsy without neurotisation of the ...
متن کاملFunctioning free gracilis myocutaneous flap transfer provides a reliable single-stage facial reconstruction and reanimation following tumor ablation.
BACKGROUND Ablative orofacial defects incorporating mimetic facial musculature/nerve cause hemifacial expressive dysfunction and considerable morbidity but are rarely reanimated immediately using free functioning gracilis myocutaneous flaps. METHODS Disrupted buccal branches provided a recipient facial nerve for 24 gracilis reinnervations. An additional 15 free flaps were used for extensive c...
متن کاملFree functioning gracilis transfer for traumatic brachial plexus injuries in children.
PURPOSE To report our technique and experience with use of free functioning muscle transfer (FFMT) in reconstruction of traumatic brachial plexus injuries (BPIs) in children as well as its complications and outcomes. METHODS Twelve patients with complete BPI underwent FFMT for reconstruction between 2000 and 2012. Eight had single-stage gracilis transfer for restoration of elbow flexion, and ...
متن کاملComparison of one-stage free gracilis muscle flap with two-stage method in chronic facial palsy
Abstract Background: Rehabilitation of facial paralysis is one of the greatest challenges faced by reconstructive surgeons today. The traditional method for treatment of patients with facial palsy is the two-stage free gracilis flap which has a long latency period of between the two stages of surgery. Methods: In this paper, we prospectively compared the results of the one-stage gracilis flap ...
