• Influence of alumina content on fs-laser machining zirconia-alumina composites was studied. Significant influence material composition removal behavior demonstrated. Single phase materials have larger laser ablation thresholds and smaller rate than their composites. A lower scan speed is preferred for single while a higher beneficial the Laser texturing ceramics promising surface modification method many applications, such as enhancing osseointegration toughened zirconia (ATZ) dental implants or improving friction (ZTA) hip replacement bearing components. The common problems in ATZ/ZTA are thermal cracking, low (MRR), laser-induced transformation (LIPT). Furthermore, compositional variation those will complicate these problems. In order to improve manufacturing processability, ultrashort pulsed investigated this research. were found MRRs composites, negatively correlated single-pulse threshold. However, under multi-pulse irradiation, all saturated same level, indicating that more sensitive incubation effect This led being reduced at speeds, remained independent speed. It also shown less susceptible cracking excessive heat accumulation. These results suggest achieve MRR, suppressing without compromising efficiency. addition, no LIPT detected dominated after ablation.
