چکیده
Abstract Two types of mid-high-latitude low-frequency intraseasonal oscillations (LF-ISOs), featuring eastward and westward propagation, have been identified over the Eurasian continent in past 37 summers (1982–2018). The propagating modes commonly a dominant periodicity 30–50 days near Ural Mountains (UM) but different origins evolutions. LF-ISO initiates eastern North America, migrates northeastward across northeastern America–western Atlantic, central western Europe, UM, then propagates southeastward to northwestern China, which is Atlantic-Eurasian continental mode. In contrast, mode quasi-circumpolar, initiating East Siberian Sea moving southwestward UM northern Europe eventually reaching Greenland Canadian Arctic Archipelago. These two LF-ISOs are accompanied by significant tropical variations with evident tropical–extratropical interactions. Meanwhile, these decadal preferences before after 2000, ascribed change both efficient kinetic energy obtained from mean flow their genesis region background associated Atlantic Oscillation/Arctic Oscillation change. This study deepens understanding subseasonal for mid-high latitudes prediction sources low-latitude regions.

Boreal summer intraseasonal oscillations in the MJO skeleton model with observation-based forcing
The Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) skeleton model is a low-order model for intraseasonal oscillations that, in an extended form, includes off-equatorial and antisymmetric components. Previous studies of this extended model have used an idealized background state and forcing terms. In the current study, observation-based estimates of these forcing terms and background state are used. Linear sol...
متن کاملEnergy Spectrum Characteristics of Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillations: Climatology and Variations during the ENSO Developing and Decaying Phases*
The geographic-dependence characteristics of the energy spectrum of the boreal summer intraseasonal oscillation (BSISO; May–October) over the Indo–western Pacific region were analyzed using 25-yr (1979– 2003) observational data. The BSISO energy spectrum distribution exhibits a distinctive regional characteristic. The stationary and eastward-propagating modes are most pronounced at the equator ...
متن کاملA Model for the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation
The tropical intraseasonal oscillation (ISO) exhibits pronounced seasonality. The boreal summer ISO is more complex than its winter counterpart due to the coexistence of equatorial eastward, off-equatorial westward, and northward propagating, low-frequency modes and their interactions. Based on observational evidence and results obtained from numerical experiments, a mechanism is proposed for t...
متن کاملPredicting the Cloud Patterns for the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal Oscillation Through a Low-Order Stochastic Model
Abstract: We assess the limits of predictability of the large-scale cloud patterns in the boreal summer intraseasonal variability (BSISO) as a measure of outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), a proxy for convective activity. A recent developed nonlinear data analysis technique, nonlinear Laplacian spectrum analysis (NLSA), is applied to the OLR data, defining two spatial modes with high intermitte...
متن کاملIntraseasonal SST Variability and Air–Sea Interaction over the Kuroshio Extension Region during Boreal Summer*
The structure and evolution characteristics of intraseasonal (20–100 day) variations of sea surface temperature (SST) and associated atmospheric and oceanic circulations over the Kuroshio Extension (KE) region during boreal summer are investigated, using satellite-based daily SST, observed precipitation data, and reanalysis data. The intraseasonal SST warming in the KE region is associated with...
