چکیده

Two novel body/face wash gels enriched with emollient ingredients (including dexpanthenol) were developed for the daily care of dry skin. similarly designed 2-week studies (N = 42 each) conducted to assess biophysical and cosmetic performance each new in healthy adults Instrumental measurements quantified effects on stratum corneum (SC) hydration transepidermal water loss (TEWL) (with without a previous sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) challenge) after single repeated usage. Following applications face gel facial skin, as well SLS-undamaged SLS-damaged skin forearm, significantly increased. Similarly, usage body moisturization increased from baseline; comparisons control areas provided inconsistent results No TEWL observed either product. Both tolerated performances appreciated by subjects. The study suggest that use was associated significant skin-moisturizing adversely affecting barrier function repair.

Skin barrier function and stratum corneum hydration

Under normal circumstances, epidermis must be as impermeable as possible except for a small amount of water loss to hydrate the outer layers of the SC. Although all living cells require water to function, some “dead” cells also require water to be metabolically active. As it is the case of corneocytes, epidermis must retain sufficient water to (a) hydrate the outer layers of the SC to maintain ...

Ceramides and barrier function in healthy skin.

Lipids in the stratum corneum are key components in the barrier function of the skin. Changes in lipid composition related to eczematous diseases are well known, but limited data are available on variations within healthy skin. The objective of the present study was to compare ceramide subgroups and ceramide/cholesterol ratios in young, old, male and female healthy skin. A total of 55 participa...

Niacinamide-containing facial moisturizer improves skin barrier and benefits subjects with rosacea.

A growing body of literature suggests that some moisturizers can improve stratum corneum barrier function, as well as ameliorate dry skin. The clinical signs and symptoms of rosacea, which include increased facial skin dryness and sensitivity, suggest a possible role for such moisturizers as an adjuvant in the management of this condition. This randomized, investigator-blind, controlled observa...
