Vertical convection (VC) under the action of vertical vibration in a square cavity has been investigated using direct numerical simulation. The simulations are conducted with Prandtl number Pr fixed at 4.38 and Rayleigh Ra ranging from [Formula: see text] to text]. To examine influence vibration, dimensionless frequency is varied range small amplitude First, for low frequency, trivial results obtained where flow structures scalings Nu Re resemble that standard VC cases. In contrast, when ? increases beyond critical value text], strong shearing effect leads abundant eruptions thermal plumes sidewalls, thus laminar-turbulent transition bulk flow. As result, heat-transport greatly enhanced scaling exponent ? substantially such vibration-dominated regime. specific, relations transit = 0 laminar regime turbulent Analysis mean field shows thins boundary layer enhances dissipation rate region.
