Tunnel spin polarization versus energy for clean and doped Al2O3 barriers.
The variation of the tunnel spin-polarization (TSP) with energy is determined using a magnetic tunnel transistor, allowing quantification of the energy dependent TSP separately for both ferromagnet/insulator interfaces and direct correlation with the tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) measured in the same device. The intrinsic TSP is reduced below the Fermi level, and more strongly so for tunneling...
متن کاملPolarization versus photon spin.
We examine whether the Stokes parameters of a two-mode electromagnetic field results from the superposition of the spins of the photons it contains. To this end we express any n-photon state as the result of the action on the vacuum of n creation operators generating photons which can have may different polarization states in general. We find that the macroscopic polarization holds as sum of th...
متن کاملSpin torque, tunnel-current spin polarization, and magnetoresistance in MgO magnetic tunnel junctions.
We employ the spin-torque response of magnetic tunnel junctions with ultrathin MgO tunnel barrier layers to investigate the relationship between spin transfer and tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) under finite bias, and find that the spin torque per unit current exerted on the free layer decreases by < 10% over a bias range where the TMR decreases by > 40%. This is inconsistent with free-electron-...
متن کاملTunnel spin polarization of Ni80Fe20/SiO2 probed with a magnetic tunnel transistor
The tunnel spin polarization of Ni80Fe20/SiO2 interfaces has been investigated using a magnetic tunnel transistor MTT . The MTT with a Ni80Fe20/SiO2 emitter shows a magnetocurrent of 74% at 100 K, corresponding to a tunnel spin polarization of the Ni80Fe20/SiO2 interface of 27%. This is only slightly lower than the value of 34% for Ni80Fe20/Al2O3 interfaces determined in similar MTT structures....
متن کاملCorrelation energy and spin polarization in the 2D electron gas.
The ground-state energy of the two-dimensional uniform electron gas has been calculated with a fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo method, including backflow correlations, for a wide range of electron densities as a function of spin polarization. We give a simple analytic representation of the correlation energy which fits our simulation data and includes several known high- and low-density limits...
