Triggering sustainability communication in a B2B context: combining action research and sensemaking

Purpose The paper explores processes associated with the adoption of corporate sustainability communication in a B2B context. It employs combined action research and sensemaking approach to document moments that precede initiation external communication. Design/methodology/approach is outcome an project, where we examine case one industrial company was silent on its multiple sustainability-related practices, but recently decided become more transparent outside world. A processual adopted show how organisational non-organisational members actively participated meaning co-construction. Findings Corporate silence can be disrupted by triggering events cause sudden realisation for members, eventually leading inside organisation. Once this occurs, possibility externally communicating appears feasible strategic pursue. We different actors are involved co-construction entire process unfolds. Practical implications sheds light complexity communication, involved. This useful consider order couple other practices.
