Triggering rainfall intensities for post-wildfire debris flows in the Sonoran Desertscrub plant community

چکیده
Wildfire makes landscapes more vulnerable to debris flows by reducing soil infiltration capacity and decreasing vegetation cover. The extent which fire affects debris-flow processes depends on the severity of fire, climatology intense rainfall, pre-fire plant community, sediment supply, among other factors. As expands into new communities geographic regions, there is a corresponding need expand efforts document fire-induced changes their impacts processes. In recent years, several large wildfires have impacted portions Sonoran Desertscrub community in Arizona, USA, where has been historically infrequent. Following two these fires, we monitored activity at watershed scale quantified wildfire-driven hydraulic properties using in-situ measurements with mini disk tension infiltrometers. Results indicate that rainfall intensity-duration thresholds for initiation post-fire recently burned watersheds within are substantially greater than those nearby areas dominated communities, such as chaparral. provide insight impact it likely be impactful future help existing flow databases paucity observations.

Relations between rainfall and triggering of debris-flow: case study of Cancia (Dolomites, Northeastern Italy)
Debris-flows occurring in the area of Cancia (Dolomites, Northeastern Italy) in recent years have exposed the population to serious risk. In response to the recurring hazard, an alarm and monitoring system was installed to provide a sufficient level of safeguard for inhabitants and infrastructures. The data recorded at three rain gauges during debris-flow events has been analysed, taking into c...
متن کاملMid- and Long-Term Effects of Wildfire and Debris Flows on Stream Ecosystem Metabolism
Wildfire is an important and prevalent agent of disturbance in vegetated landscapes across much of the Earth’s surface, including forested watersheds in the arid western USA. Between 1992 and 2003, >40% of the watersheds in the upper reaches of the Boise River watershed in central Idaho burned. The purpose of our study was to investigate the legacy effects of wildfire on stream ecosystems by an...
متن کاملThe Physics of Debris Flows
Recent advances in theory and experimentation motivate a thorough reassessment of the physics of debris flows. Analyses of flows of dry, granular solids and solid-fluid mixtures provide a foundation for a comprehensive debris flow theory, and experiments provide data that reveal the strengths and limitations of theoretical models. Both debris flow materials and dry granular materials can sustai...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Understanding ecological processes is a prerequisite for the management of rangelands; therefore, recognition of the relationship between environmental factors and vegetation is very important. The present research aims to investigate environmental and management factors affecting rangeland vegetation distribution in Saral rangelands of Kurdistan province, Iran, in 2017. Sampling was done...
