چکیده

Abstract Tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) has emerged as an excellent coating material for improving the reliability of application components under high normal loads. Herein, we present results our investigations regarding mechanical and tribological properties a 2-µm-thick multilayer ta-C on high-speed steel substrates. Multilayers composed alternating soft hard layers are fabricated using filtered cathodic vacuum arc with substrate bias voltages (0 100 V or 0 150 V). The thickness ratio is discovered to be 1:3 sp 2 -rich 3 layers. show that hardness elastic modulus coatings increase content layer. reached approximately 37 GPa, whereas improved toughness higher adhesion strength (> 29 N) obtained. friction performance ( µ = 0.07) similar single layer thick coating, but wear rate (0.13 × 10 ?6 mm /(N·m)) load 30 N. We further demonstrate importance structure in suppressing crack propagation increasing resistance plastic deformation H / E ) ratio.

Cyclic Voltammetric Behavior of Nitrogen-Doped Tetrahedral Amorphous Carbon Films Deposited by Filtered Cathodic Vacuum Arc

Nitrogen-doped tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C :N) films were deposited by filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA) technique using nitrogen as a background gas. The structure of the ta-C :N films was studied with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy in terms of nitrogen flow rate used during the film deposition. Potential windows of the films measured in deaerated and un...

Properties of nitrogen doped tetrahedral amorphous carbon films prepared by filtered cathodic vacuum arc technique

The properties of nitrogen doped tetrahedral amorphous carbon films prepared by the filtered cathodic vacuum arc technique have been studied. The doping species, nitrogen ions, were produced by an ion beam source. The nitrogen flow rate was varied from 0.5 to 10 sccm while keeping other deposition conditions constant. The nitrogen content in deposited films was determined by Rutherford backscat...

The effect of nitrogen on the mechanical properties of tetrahedral amorphous carbon films deposited with a filtered cathodic vacuum arc

The mechanical properties of both undoped and nitrogen containing tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C and ta-C:N ) films, such as hardness and E-modulus, are investigated. The mechanical properties are related to the film structures. The ta-C and ta-C:N films are prepared in a filtered cathodic vacuum arc process. Nanoindentation testing is used to measure the mechanical properties of these film...

Heat treatment of tetrahedral amorphous carbon films grown by filtered cathodic vacuum-arc technique

Tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C ) is a potential low-cost substitute for diamond in certain applications, but little is known of the temperature range over which its desirable properties are retained. The thermal stability of tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C ) films has been investigated by heat treatment of the films at temperatures from room temperature to 450°C in high vacuum, low vacuu...

Evaluation of tribological properties of (Ti,Al)CN/DLC composite coatings deposited by cathodic arc method.

In this study, Ti, Al and N doped DLC – referred to here after as “(Ti,Al)CN/DLC composite”- coating and pure diamond-like coating (DLC) were produced by cathodic arc deposition technique and the effects of the coating thickness on their tribological properties were evaluated. The coatings were characterized, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffrac...
