Tribological properties of hierarchical micro-dimples produced on a cylindrical surface by dual-frequency texturing

Abstract An experimental investigation was performed for investigating the tribological performance of micro-dimple surface texture patterns on a cylindrical in realistic operating environment starved lubrication. Micro-dimples were generated by dual-frequency texturing method, which high-frequency (16.3 kHz) three-dimensional (3D) vibration and low-frequency (230 Hz) one-dimensional (1D) applied at tool tip simultaneously, resulting generation hierarchical micro-dimples single step. Rotating cylinder-on-pin tests conducted to compare non-textured reference specimen samples. The effect textures with various shape parameters (long drop short drop), dimension (length density), operation (load sliding velocity) evaluated. Stribeck curves indicate that exhibit lower coefficient friction than high contact-pressure regions.
