Tree species mixing affects soil microbial functioning indirectly via root and litter traits and soil parameters in European forests

چکیده
Plant community composition influences soil microbial communities through plant trait variations that lead to changes in nutrient and organic carbon inputs into the by root exudates litter. Although litter living roots are known influence functioning independently, their relative effects rarely measured simultaneously naturally occurring communities. Here, we sought evaluate how forest floor absorptive affect broad functions of communities, this may be influenced tree species mixing. To do so, litter, were sampled from mono-specific three-species mixed stands four mature, natural ecosystems across Europe. The direct mixing, its indirect via traits, parameters on biomass, catabolic activity diversity, denitrification analysed. Results did not show mixture but suggest traits above-ground parameters. Tree Species Traits Influence Soil Physical, Chemical, and Biological Properties in High Elevation Forests
BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that plants often have species-specific effects on soil properties. In high elevation forests in the Southern Rocky Mountains, North America, areas that are dominated by a single tree species are often adjacent to areas dominated by another tree species. Here, we assessed soil properties beneath adjacent stands of trembling aspen, lodgepole pine, and Engel...

متن کاملSoil moisture and soil-litter mixing effects on surface litter decomposition: A controlled environment assessment
Recent studies suggest the long-standing discrepancy between measured and modeled leaf litter decomposition in drylands is, in part, the result of a unique combination of abiotic drivers that include high soil surface temperature and radiant energy levels and soil-litter mixing. Temperature and radiant energy effects on litter decomposition have been widely documented. However, under field cond...
متن کاملCanopy Tree–soil Interactions within Temperate Forests: Species Effects on Soil Carbon and Nitrogen
In a northwestern Connecticut forest, we quantified the carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) content of the forest floor and the top 15 cm of mineral soil and the rate of midsummer net N mineralization beneath six different tree species. There were large interspecific differences in forest floor depth and mass, in the size and distribution of C and N pools at varying soil depths, and in rates of midsumm...
