Trapped. Museum experiments with relationality, empathetic imagination and perspective

چکیده

This article presents a reflection on particular category of objects often found in ethnographic museum collections: traps. It asks what might be to this kind object, and these particularities teach us about making exhibitions, whether specifically traps or not. I argue that can ways engaging with mobilise call “empathetic imagination”. In the conclusion, reflect how exhibitions use artefacts reminiscent facilitate such engagement.

Relationality and social interaction.

This paper explores Bourdieu's account of a relational social space, and his relative neglect of social interaction within this framework. Bourdieu includes social capital as one of the key relational elements of his social space, but says much less about it than economic or cultural capital, and levels of social capital are rarely measured in his work. Bourdieu is reluctant to focus on the con...

Quantum information experiments with trapped ions: status and prospects

With recent developments in the general eld of quantum information, it has become clear that quantum systems have the potential to yield signi cant advances in information technology [1{4]. Because of this potential, considerable experimental e ort is underway to develop physical systems which are suitable for quantum information applications, in forms ranging from gas to liquid to solid state ...

Experiments with Stark decelerated and trapped OH radicals

In this paper, we review recent developments in our efforts to get complete control over the velocity of a molecular beam. Central in these experiments is the use of a Stark decelerator, with which the velocity of a beam of neutral polar molecules can be continuously varied, using techniques akin to methods used in charged particle accelerator physics. These techniques allow for confining isola...

Two Varieties of Literary Imagination: Metaphor, Fiction, and Thought Experiments

Recently, philosophers have discovered that they have a lot to learn from, or at least to ponder about, fiction. Many metaphysicians are attracted to fiction as a model for our talk about purported objects and properties, such as numbers, morality, and possible worlds, without embracing a robust Platonist ontology. In addition, a growing group of philosophers of mind are interested in the impli...

Experiments towards quantum information with trapped Calcium ions

Ground state cooling and coherent manipulation of ions in an rf-(Paul) trap is the prerequisite for quantum information experiments with trapped ions. With resolved sideband cooling on the optical S1/2 -D5/2 quadrupole transition we have cooled one and two Ca ions to the ground state of vibration with up to 99.9% probability. With a novel cooling scheme utilizing electromagnetically induced tra...
