Transpyloric feeding with artificial lung ventilation in premature with pneumonia: an observational study

چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Feeding critically ill patients on mechanical ventilation through a gastric tube can be challenging. Parenteral nutrition is often preferred when enteral feeding problematic. Transpyloric has been identified as an optimal method of for seriously premature infants. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the advantages transpyloric combined with artificial compared in neonatal patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The included 64 low tolerance who required ventilation. gestational age did not exceed 34 (32–35) weeks. Enteral using NAN® mixture was administered placed outside pylorus anti-reflux mechanism. volume determined based requirement 120 kcal/kg/day. RESULTS: results demonstrated that group receiving had significantly shorter hospital stay 54 (41–67) days 86 (64–94) days, p < 0.05. weight gain lower at 89 (55–200) g 161.5 (110–218) g. Similar findings were observed regarding decrease total protein levels 10th day 36.5 (32–40) g/l 47 (42–50) g/l, CONCLUSION: infants more efficient feeding. suggest positive effects including reduced hospitalization duration, prevention hypoproteinemia, and significant increase body weight.

Parenteral nutrition compared with transpyloric feeding.

Fifty nine infants of birthweight less than 1500 g were allocated alternately to initial total parenteral nutrition or to transpyloric feeding. Mortality was similar between the two groups. Ten of the 29 infants in the transpyloric group failed to establish full enteral nutrition during the first week of life. No beneficial effects on growth were shown in infants receiving parenteral nutrition....

Multinational, observational study of procalcitonin in ICU patients with pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation: a multicenter observational study

INTRODUCTION The intent of this study was to determine whether serum procalcitonin (PCT) levels are associated with prognosis, measured as organ dysfunctions and 28-day mortality, in patients with severe pneumonia. METHODS This was a multicenter, observational study of critically ill adult patients with pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation conducted in 10 academic hospitals in Canada, t...

An observational study of giant cell interstitial pneumonia and lung fibrosis in hard metal lung disease

BACKGROUND Hard metal lung disease has various pathological patterns including giant cell interstitial pneumonia (GIP) and usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP). Although the UIP pattern is considered the prominent feature in advanced disease, it is unknown whether GIP finally progresses to the UIP pattern. OBJECTIVES To clarify clinical, pathological and elemental differences between the GIP an...

Short women with severe sepsis-related acute lung injury receive lung protective ventilation less frequently: an observational cohort study

INTRODUCTION Lung protective ventilation (LPV) has been shown to improve survival and the duration of mechanical ventilation in acute lung injury (ALI) patients. Mortality of ALI may vary by gender, which could result from treatment variability. Whether gender is associated with the use of LPV is not known. METHODS A total of 421 severe sepsis-related ALI subjects in the Consortium to Evaluat...
