Transit-Oriented Development: Towards Achieving Sustainable Transport and Urban Development in Jakarta Metropolitan, Indonesia

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) is advocated for achieving sustainable transportation through development around transit stations. TOD’s global implementation revealed varied outcomes, with many cities failing to achieve the intended objectives. TOD in Jakarta Metropolitan area still its infancy. Through a geospatial information system and survey of 400 commuters who live inside 1 km radius planned TOD, this longitudinal study aimed examine an eight-year lapse between 2013 2020 changes two aspects, specifically land-use spatial distribution as well commuters’ travel behavior preferences due COVID-19 pandemic. Key findings are follows: increased diversity residential function areas capital decrease suburbs, reflecting improved readiness reside areas. Furthermore, kinship relations were main reason when selecting house locations, no capacity change their workplaces. A significant increase public facilities at expense green open space (GOS) indicates that was conducted by government sole authority manage GOS, lacking private sector involvement. The cost factor most dominant commuter’s use transportation, instead new transport modes such MRT LRT. Moreover, all studied stations, whilst it showed evidence time frequency, not greatly influenced related restrictions.
