Transient dynamics of the quantum light retrieved from Rydberg polaritons

Abstract We study the photon statistics of weak coherent pulses propagating through a cold atomic ensemble in regime Rydberg electromagnetically induced transparency. show experimentally that value second-order autocorrelation function transmitted light strongly depends on position within pulse and heavily varies during transients pulse. In particular, we falling edge displays much lower values than rest derive theoretical model quantitatively predicts our results explains physical behavior involved. Finally, use this effect to generate single photons localized by selecting only last part pulse, an antibunching parameter as low 0.12 generation efficiency per trial larger possible with probabilistic schemes based ensembles.
