Transient CFD Modelling of Air–Water Two-Phase Annular Flow Characteristics in a Small Horizontal Circular Pipe

نویسندگان

چکیده

The liquid film formed around the inner walls of a small horizontal circular pipe often exhibits non-uniform distributions circumferentially, where is thinner at top surface than bottom one. Even with this known phenomenon, problem remains challenging task for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to predict formation on walls, mainly due inaccurate two-phase flow models that can induce an undesirable ‘dry-out’ phenomenon. Therefore, in study, user-defined function subroutine (ANNULAR-UDF) developed and applied CFD modelling 8.8 mm diameter pipe, order capture transient behaviour, pattern evolving process other characteristics validation against experiments. It found able phase friction pressure drop about maximum 30% deviation, consistent correlated experimental data by applying empirical correlation Chisholm. Due gravity effect, generally thicker wall trend be further enhanced increasing superficial air–water velocity ratios. These findings could valuable HVAC industry applications, some desirable annular features are necessary retain achieve high efficiency heat transfer performance.

Stability analysis of stratified two-phase liquid-gas flow in a horizontal pipe

This study aimed at linear stability analysis of the stratified two-phase liquid-gas flow in a horizontal pipe. First, equations governing the linear stability of flow in each phase and boundary conditions were obtained. The governing equations were eigenvalue Orr Sommerfeld equations which are difficult and stiff problems to solve. After obtaining the velocity profiles of the gas and liquid ph...

CFD Analysis of Two Phase Flow in a Horizontal Pipe – Prediction of Pressure Drop

In designing of condensers, the prediction of pressure drop is as important as the prediction of heat transfer coefficient. Modeling of two phase flow, particularly liquid – vapor flow under diabatic conditions inside a horizontal tube using CFD analysis is difficult with the available two phase models in FLUENT due to continuously changing flow patterns. In the present analysis, CFD analysis o...

The Indication of Two-Phase Flow Pattern and Slug Characteristics in a Pipeline Using CFD Method

Multiphase flows are commonly encountered in oil and gas industries. The transport of multiphase flow causes the formation of slug, the increase of pressure drop and the possibility of phase changes therefore, a set of simulation runs was performed to predict flow regimes in a horizontal pipeline, and the results were compared with the Baker chart. The effects of small downward inclinations of ...

Stationary core-annular flow through a horizontal pipe.

A theoretical investigation has been made of core-annular flow: the flow of a high-viscosity liquid core surrounded by a low-viscosity annular liquid layer through a horizontal pipe. Special attention is paid to the question how the buoyancy force on the core, caused by a possible density difference between the core and the annular layer, is counterbalanced. From earlier studies it is known tha...
