Traits of Adaptive Outdoor Thermal Comfort in a Tropical Urban Microclimate

نویسندگان

چکیده

Urban heat islands (UHIs) are negatively impacting the quality of urban environment and outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) levels, which have raised concerns regarding their impact on health well-being. Understanding OTC level is crucial, particularly in tropical cities with year-round high temperatures humidity. A study was conducted Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, to determine a selected area through microclimate measurements questionnaire surveys 1157 respondents. Over half dwellers reported discomfort, perceived level, indicating strong adaptive behaviours among despite physiological stress. Confounding factors such as morphology, land cover human activity patterns also influence city. The findings emphasize need for interventions improve promote better city measures green infrastructure, UHI mitigation increasing public awareness.

Supplementary data of “Impacts of mesic and xeric urban vegetation on outdoor thermal comfort and microclimate in Phoenix, AZ”

An advanced Markov-Chain Monte Carlo approach called Subset Simulation is described in Au and Beck (2001) [1] was used to quantify parameter uncertainty and model sensitivity of the urban land-atmospheric framework, viz. the coupled urban canopy model-single column model (UCM-SCM). The results show that the atmospheric dynamics are sensitive to land surface conditions. The most sensitive parame...

Impact of Climate Change on Outdoor Thermal Comfort and Health in Tropical Wet and Hot Zone (Douala), Cameroon

Abstract Background and purpose:Climate change has an important role on the health and productivity of the occupant of the building. The objective of this study is to estimate the effects of climate change on thermal comfort in hot and wet areas, as in the case of the city of Douala. Materials and Methods:The general circulation model (CSMK3 Model, Scenario B1) was adopted for this purpose.Outd...

A Method for Microclimate Observation and Thermal Analysis -Tropical Condition of Kuala Lumpur

Using outdoor public spaces as a place of social interaction is in a great consideration these days. Providing tolerable thermal condition as long as possible is one of the primary stage for people’s presence in these places. Outdoor thermal indices are introduced to help architects making appropriate decisions in climate responsive design procedure. By doing some field study research in extr...

Outdoor thermal comfort and urban design in warm-humid Guayaquil, Ecuador

Deteriorated urban microclimate and poor outdoor thermal comfort is an increasing problem in cities in the tropics due to the combined effect of urban and global warming. Microclimate measurements (wind speed, air temperature and humidity, and globe temperature) were carried out in different parts of the warm-humid city Guayaquil, Ecuador. Simultaneously about 400 persons were asked for their s...
