Trailing-Edge Noise Comparability in Open, Closed, and Hybrid Wind Tunnel Test Sections

Open-jet, hard-wall, and hybrid test section configurations are typically used in wind tunnel tests, aiming to represent the ideal free-flight condition. Each type requires special adaptations of experimental hardware specific correction methodologies that account for systematic measurement errors. Differently from previous research, this paper investigates comparability measurements performed three same tunnel. With approach, errors related facility or boundary-layer tripping methodology minimized. Basic 2D aerodynamic boundary corrections evaluated using a DU97W300 airfoil. The corrected lift curve collapsed well while differences stall behavior distribution at larger angles attack nonnegligible. trailing-edge noise produced by NACA-0012, NACA-0018, NACA-63018 served as reference aeroacoustic sources analysis. Moreover, reduction serrations an additional relative levels. chord-based Reynolds number experiments ranged 260,000 660,000. Unsteady wall pressure near provided source terms, demonstrating negligible change between different types. applied acoustic yielded comparable absolute far-field level types within . levels These results show equivalent, adequate postprocessing systematically implemented.
