Traffic Signal Optimization to Improve Sustainability: A Literature Review

Optimizing traffic signals to improve progression relies on minimizing mobility performance measures (e.g., delays and stops). However, delay stop minimizations do not necessarily lead minimal sustainability fuel consumption emissions). For that reason, researchers have focused, for decades, integrating models, signal optimization emissions models minimize metrics while keeping acceptable levels of metrics. Therefore, this paper reviews, classifies, analyzes studies found in the literature regarding optimizing sustainable signals. This provides with a good starting point further develop solutions which can address control. To achieve that, study details most notable timing from six perspectives: methods, objective functions, operating conditions, reported savings. Outcomes research show previous deployed many combinations elements six-perspective mentioned above, leading wide range The also concludes available are relatively old.
