چکیده
Abnormally pronounced digital impressions (APDIs) on the endocranial surface develop secondary to a prolonged rise in intracranial pressure. This can result from number of pathological conditions, including hydrocephalus due tuberculous meningitis (TBM). APDIs have been described with relation TBM not only modern medical literature but also several paleopathological studies. However, are pathognomonic for and their diagnostic value identifying past human populations has evaluated identified pre-antibiotic era skeletons. To assess first time, macroscopic investigation was performed skeletons Terry Collection (Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, USA). Our material consisted 234 tuberculosis (TB) as cause death (TB group) 193 non-tuberculous (NTB) causes (NTB group). The examination focused stage prominence frequency TB group NTB group. determine significance difference (if any) between two groups, χ 2 testing our data conducted. We found that were twice common than comparison frequencies revealed statistically significant groups. In addition, more stages recorded frequently results indicate be considered criteria practice. With suitable circumspection, utilization provides paleopathologists stronger basis consequently, sensitive means assessing populations.

A diagnostic rule for tuberculous meningitis.
Diagnostic confusion often exists between tuberculous meningitis and other meningoencephalitides. Newer diagnostic tests are unlikely to be available in many countries for some time. This study examines which clinical features and simple laboratory tests can differentiate tuberculous meningitis from other infections. Two hundred and thirty two children (110 tuberculous meningitis, 94 non-tuberc...
متن کاملReliability and Diagnostic Performance of CT Imaging Criteria in the Diagnosis of Tuberculous Meningitis
INTRODUCTION Abnormalities on CT imaging may contribute to the diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis (TBM). Recently, an expert consensus case definition (CCD) and set of imaging criteria for diagnosing basal meningeal enhancement (BME) have been proposed. This study aimed to evaluate the sensitivity, specificity and reliability of these in a prospective cohort of adult meningitis patients. MET...

متن کاملPlague-Meningitis
This is a report on 2 cases of plaguemeningitis observed by us among the comparatively small material of 41 instances of plague treated at Wellington, Nilgiris, in 1945-46. We consider our cases worthy of record as the cerebro-spinal type of plague has been described in very few instances only, the disease being believed to be of extreme rarity. Lewillon, Devignat and Schoetter (1940) reported ...
متن کاملEVALUATION OF DIRECT MICROSCOPY, CULTURE, AND POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF TUBERCULOUS MENINGITIS
In view of the importance of early diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis (TBM), the efficiency of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), one of the most reliable and sensitive DNA-based assays, was compared with conventional methods (acid-fast microscopy and culture) for the detection of M. tuberculosis in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens from patients suspected of TBM. Of the 29 CSF specim...
