Toxic psychosis with antihistamines reversed by physostigmine.
A case of toxic psychosis due to antihistamine poisoning is described. The reversal of this state by physostigmine supports the contention that it is caused by an anticholinergic syndrome. The management of antihistamine poisoning is discussed.
متن کاملMK-801-induced learning impairments reversed by physostigmine and nicotine in zebrafish
Previous studies have demonstrated that N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors and acetylcholine receptors are related to learning and memory in rat and mice. In this study, we examined the effects of MK-801, a non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist, on learning and memory in zebrafish using a passive avoidance test. We further tested whether or not nicotine, a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor...
متن کاملUrticaria induced by antihistamines.
H1-antihistamines are commonly used drugs, and probably the most frequently used for allergic diseases. They are pharmacologic inverse agonists of histamine at H1 receptor sites and try to shift the equilibrium of this receptor toward the inactive state, preventing H1 response. A wide variety of adverse effects have been attributed to antihistamines, and they can exceptionally induce skin react...
متن کاملBradycardia produced by pyridostigmine and physostigmine.
PURPOSE The bradycardia produced by pyridostigmine and physostigmine in an animal model of acute cardiac denervation was examined according to its relation to cholinesterase inhibition and sensitivity to block by cholinergic receptor antagonists. METHODS Cats were anaesthetised, vagotomised and propranolol-treated. Heart rate was continuously recorded. Erythrocyte cholinesterase activity of a...
متن کاملPsychosis in Three Patients with Vitiligo
Psychotic disorders have been observed in association with some autoimmune disorders. Moreover, autoimmune mechanisms have been recently considered in evaluation of schizophrenia spectrum disease managements. Vitiligo is one of the autoimmune diseases, but there is no report of vitiligo association with psychosis. We report three patients with vitiligo and schizophrenia spectrum disease that ar...
