Towards Machine Learning for Error Compensation in Additive Manufacturing

Additive Manufacturing (AM) of three-dimensional objects is now being progressively realised with its ad-hoc approach minimal material wastage (lean manufacturing) one benefit by default. It could also be considered as an evolutional paradigm in the manufacturing industry long list application late. Artificial Intelligence currently finding usefulness predictive modelling to provide intelligent, efficient, customisable, high-quality and sustainable-oriented production process. This paper presents a comprehensive survey on commonly used models based heuristic algorithms discusses their applications toward making AM “smart”. summarises AM’s current trend, future opportunity, gaps, requirements together recommendations for technology research inter-industry collaboration, educational training transfer AI perspective in-line Industry 4.0 developmental Moreover, machine learning are presented detecting product defects cyber-physical system additive manufacturing. Based reviews various applications, printability multi-indicators, reduction design complexity threshold, acceleration prefabrication, real-time control, enhancement security defect detection customised designs seen prospective opportunities further research.
