Towards a microfluidic device for investigating neurally mediated cardiac wave dynamics

چکیده
Myocardial infarcts are often associated with increased neural innervation surrounding the infarct scar. This nerve sprouting is risk of arrhythmias and sudden death. Despite decades study, fundamental questions remain open, including whether heterogeneous activity proarrhythmic number neurons needed to modulate dynamics at tissue level. Arrhythmogenic mechanisms in vivo poorly understood as key physiological parameters not experimentally accessible.

Neurally mediated cardiac syncope: autonomic modulation after normal saline infusion.
OBJECTIVES This study assessed the heart variability response to orthostatic stress during tilt table testing before and after normal saline administration. BACKGROUND The efficacy of sodium chloride and mineralocortoid in the treatment of neurally mediated cardiac syncope is attributed to intravascular volume expansion; however, their modulation of autonomic nervous system activity has not b...

Mailing Address: Eduardo Arrais Rocha Email: [email protected] A syncope is a transient loss of consciousness because of reduced brain blood flow with loss of postural tonus followed by fast and spontaneous recovery. It is a common medical condition that accounts for up to 6% of hospitalizations, 3% of emergency consultancy episodes and high recurrence rate (34%)1. The medical term “syncope” ...

after prolonged periods of quiet upright posture (such as standing in a queue, standing in a shower, or even sitting for long periods), after being in a warm environment (such as in hot summer weather, a hot crowded room, a hot shower/ bath), immediately after exercise after emotionally stressful events after eating, when blood flow has shifted to the gut during the process of digestion.
متن کاملNeurally mediated syncope.
Neurally mediated syncope is a disorder of the autonomic regulation of postural tone, which results in hypotension, bradycardia, and loss of consciousness. A wide variety of stimuli can trigger this reflex, the most common stimulus being orthostatic stress. Typically, a patient with neurally mediated syncope experiences nausea, lightheadedness, a feeling of warmth, and pallor before abruptly lo...
