Towards a better understanding of historic mortar production—burning experiments on calcareous nannofossils

چکیده

Abstract Calcareous nannofossils are < 30 µm sized calcitic fossil remains of single-celled marine photoautotrophic algae. Carbonate-rich sedimentary rocks, containing these fossils, used as raw material for lime-based mortars. The carbonates (CaCO 3 ) heated up to approx. 900 °C. burning process, which causes the thermal decomposition CaCO into CaO (= quicklime) and CO 2 , destroys fossils. Surprisingly, calcareous algae were recently encountered in historic mortars mortar-based materials. To gain a better understanding behaviour during calcination procedure, four sample sets nine temperature levels (100 °C, 300 500 600 700 750 800 850 °C). For each set, initial all analysed with respect its nannofossil content preservation by using settling slides. Our results show decrease absolute abundance from °C onwards; rare preserved Changes relative individual species document that certain taxa more heat resistant than others. This pattern is explained different crystal sizes forms relevant taxa. Differences assemblages, observed mortar produced it, can be estimate reached quicklime production.

I-34: NRY Haplotype Analysis: towards A Better Understanding of The Genetic Basis of Spermatogenic Failure

It has been established that the Y chromosome carries genes required for spermatogenesis and male fertility. For many decades worldwide screening for gene identification has been conducted in research laboratories. However, it has been a difficult process in identifying such genes (i.e. causative mutations) which could explain the phenotypic variation and could be potentially used as markers fo...

Field experiments on eyewitness identification: towards a better understanding of pitfalls and prospects.

The Illinois pilot program on lineup procedures has helped sharpen the focus on the types of controls that are needed in eyewitness field experiments and the limits that exist for interpreting outcome measures (rates of suspect and filler identifications). A widely-known limitation of field experiments is that, unlike simulated crime experiments, the guilt or innocence of the suspects is not ea...

Towards Better Understanding QBism

Recently I posted a paper entitled "External observer reflections on QBism". As any external observer, I was not able to reflect all features of QBism properly. The comments I received from one of QBism's creators, C. A. Fuchs, were very valuable to me in better understanding the views of QBists. Some of QBism's features are very delicate and extracting them from articles of QBists is not a sim...

Calcareous Nannofossils in Holocene Surface Sediments of the Persian Gulf

The effect of the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes on the structure of the bioticcommunities are stronger and better recorded in the shelf area than in the open sea. The present study isdevoted to impact of climatic events on some species of calcareous nannofossils. For this reason, 17samples of surface sediments of the Persian Gulf were studied. Preservation of calcareous nannofoss...
