Tourism Sustainability Index: Measuring Tourism Sustainability Based on the ETIS Toolkit, by Exploring Tourist Satisfaction via Sentiment Analysis

Interest in measuring the sustainability of tourism has been significantly advancing recent years, together with need to manage impact on territories and hosting communities. This interest was further boosted by pandemic, being identified as one central elements restarting global tourism. The European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS), developed Commission, is a point reference based self-assessment, data collection, analysis tourist destinations themselves. application ETIS toolkit faced many challenges, especially at subnational level, most which are related lack available updated feed into model. In this article, we explore implementation issues, develop synthetic indicator use sentiment technique frame e-reputation satisfaction, combine that other open sources. Sustainability Index (TSI) can provide scalable georeferenced evaluation sustainability, measured according criteria complementing them. TSI, its pillars sub-components all applicable any destination. results show TSI be consistent valid tool for analyzing monitoring evolution through time periods subareas, comparing findings those benchmarks and/or competitive areas.
