Total and Available Copper and Zinc in Soils Affected by Palm Oil Mill Effluent in Oghareki, Oghara Kingdom, Delta State, Nigeria

This study evaluates the physicochemical characteristics, total and available copper zinc in soils affected by four palm oil mills effluent (POME) of Oghareki Oghara Kingdom, Delta State, Nigeria using standard methods. The results showed generally increased pH, organic matter, electrical conductivity, phosphorus, exchangeable bases cation exchange capacity (CEC), compared to non-POME-contaminated soils. Concentrations order, Na < Mg K <Ca, both POME- non-POME-soils. Data also revealed higher amounts POME Total non-POME-soils gave means 0.232 0.212 mmol/kg, 0.237 0.219 mmol/kg respect zinc, respectively, with no significant difference (P<0.05). different soil parameters recorded POME-affected may be accounted for their enhancement every discharge on one hand, perhaps, greater level biodegradation mineralization constituent other. lends support view that raw mill could alter properties receiving environment.
