چکیده
• Soil shear strength, τ, was measured in intact topsoil at six matric potentials. The preload suction stress (PSS) estimated from water saturation and suction. Normal load, PSS, density, clay organic matter explained >90 % of variation τ. model predicted well τ for two independent data sets. the trend also subsoil Distortion soil stresses during field traffic may be even more damaging to functions than compression related isotropic stresses. Shear Strength of Soil
One of the most important and the most controversial engineering properties of soil is its shear strength or ability to resist sliding along internal surfaces within a mass. The stability of a cut, the slope of an earth dam, the foundations of structures, the natural slopes of hillsides and other structures built on soil depend upon the shearing resistance offered by the soil along the probable...

Conditions of use of this publication The full-text of this report may be used under the condition of a correct and full reference to this publication. Abstract In this report the reliability of vibration predictions in civil engineering is quantified. Emphasis is laid on the vibration predictions for road-and rail traffic and vibrations from building activities such as (sheet)pile driving. Sev...
متن کاملNon-Linear Behavior and Shear Strength of Diagonally Stiffened Steel Plate Shear Walls
In this study, non-linear behavior of diagonally stiffened steel plate shear walls as a seismic resisting system has been investigated, and theoretical formulas for estimating shear strength capacity of the system have been proposed. Several validated analytical finite element models of steel shear walls with various stiffener dimensions are generated to verify and compare the analytical and th...
متن کاملShear Strength of Fiber-Reinforced Clayey Sands
Consolidated-drained triaxial compression tests were conducted to compare the stress-strain and volume change response of sands and clayey sands reinforced with discrete randomly distributed poly-propylene fibers. The influence of various test parameters such as fiber content (0.0%, 0.5% and 1.0% by weight), clay content (0%, 10% and 20% by weight), relative density (50% and 90%) and confining ...
