چکیده

Growing vegetables in controlled environments (CEs), such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and vertical structures, is a rapidly expanding industry Florida the United States, especially nearby urban areas. Although lettuce ( Lactuca sativa ) still mostly produced fields, growing CEs proximal to areas has become increasingly popular because it may facilitate reduced transportation time associated postharvest degradation. Lettuce among top-most consumed States could provide some of nutrition missing US diet. This research was planned understand levels vitamins that are key for human health, including vitamin E (tocopherols), K 1 (phylloquinone), C (ascorbic acid), grown greenhouse hydroponics. germplasm using hydroponic nutrient film technique system three experiments: at beginning, middle, end Florida, USA, season (from Aug 2020 Mar 2021). Genetic variation these were found tested four morphological types lettuce, romaine, Boston, Latin, leaf. In addition, sugar analysis conducted this germplasm, which fructose most abundant sugar. A significant genotype × environment (G E) interaction observed, indicating compounds, vitamins, dependent. However, presence certain non-crossover G interactions indicates selecting representative result new cultivars with higher content. marks initial steps improve can contribute better health consumers, not highest amount compounds but offset due its high consumption.

Possible Internalization of an Enterovirus in Hydroponically Grown Lettuce

Several studies have shown that enteric viruses can be transferred onto the surface of vegetables and fruits through spray irrigation, but, recently, reports have suggested viral contamination of vegetables sub-irrigated with reused wastewater. Hydroponic cultures, used to grow ready to eat fresh lettuce, have also been used to study the possibility of viral absorption through roots. This study...

Internalization and dissemination of human norovirus and animal caliciviruses in hydroponically grown romaine lettuce.

Fresh produce is a major vehicle for the transmission of human norovirus (NoV) because it is easily contaminated during both pre- and postharvest stages. However, the ecology of human NoV in fresh produce is poorly understood. In this study, we determined whether human NoV and its surrogates can be internalized via roots and disseminated to edible portions of the plant. The roots of romaine let...

Tomato chlorotic spot virus in Hydroponically-Grown Lettuce in São Paulo State, Brazil

In the regions of Campinas and Sumaré, São Paulo, Brazil, hidroponically grown crops of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) cv. Verônica, which showed virus-like symptoms were examined by electron microscope, biological, serological and molecular tests. Pleomorphic, enveloped particles (80-100 nm in diameter) were always detected in these samples. Experimentally inoculated host plants, including lettuce, ...

Determination of Ascorbic Acid Contents of Fruits and Vegetables

Ascorbic acid contents of some fruits and vegetables in Abakaliki were analyzed through titrimetric methods. The results recorded the concentrations (mg/100g) of ascorbic acids in various fruits as orange (15.47 ± 0.23), lemon (12.87 ± 0.45), grape (2.00 ± 0.10), paw-paw (46.40 ± 1.65), apple (2.20 ± 0.10), banana (1.87 ± 0.06), carrot (1.80 ± 0.04), pineapple (2.80 ± 0.10), water melon (2.27 ±...
