Abstract Classroom dialogue provides significant opportunity for students to build on their understanding of a subject. It is also vector through which the educator can assess progress in lessons (Alexander, 2008). The purpose this study was explore what effect specific form classroom (the Socratic seminar) has student engagement, and consequently, learning.
