چکیده
Abstract The ultra-faint dwarf galaxy Reticulum II (Ret II) exhibits a unique chemical evolution history, with 72 − 12 + 10 % of its stars strongly enhanced in r -process elements. We present deep Hubble Space Telescope photometry Ret and analyze star formation history. As other dwarfs, the color–magnitude diagram is best fit by model consisting two bursts formation. If we assume that were instantaneous, then older burst occurred around epoch reionization, forming ∼80% galaxy, while remainder formed ∼3 Gyr later. When are allowed to have nonzero durations, obtain slightly better fits. best-fitting this case consists beginning before approximately half short (100 Myr) more extended period lasting 2.6 Gyr. Considering full set viable history models, find 28% within 500 ± 200 Myr onset combination prevalence -process-enhanced demonstrates elements must been synthesized early initial star-forming phase. therefore constrain delay time between first nucleosynthesis be less than Myr. This measurement rules out an source several or more, such as GW170817.

Triangulum Ii: Possibly a Very Dense Ultra-faint Dwarf Galaxy
Laevens et al. recently discovered TriangulumII (TriII), a satellite of the Milky Way. Its Galactocentric distance is 36 kpc, and its luminosity is only L 450 . Using Keck/DEIMOS, we measured the radial velocities of six member stars within 1 2 of the center of TriII, and we found a velocity dispersion of s = + 5.1 km s v 1.4 4.0 1. We also measured the metallicities of three stars and fou...
متن کاملThe Chemical Evolution of the Boötes I Ultra-faint Dwarf Galaxy
We present chemical abundance measurements of two metal-poor red giant stars in the ultra-faint dwarf galaxy Boötes I, based on Magellan/MIKE high-resolution spectra. For Boo-980, with [ ] = Fe H 3.1 / , we present the first elemental abundance measurements, while Boo-127, with [ ] = Fe H 2.0 / , shows abundances in good agreement with previous measurements. Light and iron-peak element abundanc...
متن کاملFaint Blue Galaxies and the Epoch of Dwarf-Galaxy Formation
Several independent lines of reasoning, both theoretical and observational, suggest that the very faint (B > 24) galaxies seen in deep images of the sky are small low-mass galaxies that experienced a short starburst at redshifts 0:5 < z < 1 and have since faded into low luminosity, low surface brightness objects. We examine this hypothesis in detail in order to determine whether a model incorpo...
متن کاملA high excitation H ii region in the faint dwarf elliptical galaxy A 0951 + 68
We present the results of BVRI imaging and optical spectroscopy of the dwarf galaxy A0951+68. The images reveal that, although this galaxy is classified as a dwarf elliptical , it has some properties that are similar to dwarf irregular galaxies. It contains two bright knots of emission, one of which is red and unresolved and the other blue and resolved. The blue knot also shows a high excitatio...
