Timing of fungicide application against Cercospora leaf spot disease based on aerial spore dispersal of Cercospora beticola in sugar beet

چکیده
Abstract Cercospora leaf spot is an important foliar disease in sugar beet caused by beticola . Tolerant cultivars are available, but application of fungicides still mandatory for control. The timing the fungicide crucial as it determines outcome epidemiology. A incidence (DI) 5% widely used a threshold application. Recently method was developed that allows quantification aerial spore dispersal C measuring flight intensity. It aimed this study to prove if based on might improve control compared DI. In field trial with artificial inoculation, single at onset slowed down development indicated reduced severity and dispersal. However, did not provide sufficient terms yield. Only second detection achieved efficacy similar two applications contrast, either or DI on-farm trials under natural infection moderate pressure. This highlights necessity early timed first followed high pressure induced inoculation. Although success trials, seems usage threshold.

Matching-Based Cercospora Leaf Spot Detection in Sugar Beet
In this paper, we propose a robust disease detection method, called adaptive orientation code matching (Adaptive OCM), which is developed from a robust image registration algorithm: orientation code matching (OCM), to achieve continuous and site-specific detection of changes in plant disease. We use two-stage framework for realizing our research purpose; in the first stage, adaptive OCM was emp...
متن کاملGlyphosate and fungicide effects on Cercospora leaf spot in four glyphosate-resistant sugar beet (<i>Beta vulgaris</i>) varieties
The potential for improvedmanagement of Cercospora leaf spot (CLS), caused by Cercospora beticola, using the herbicide glyphosate in glyphosate-resistant sugar beet varieties was investigated. Controlled field experiments were conducted in 2008 and 2009 to determine if glyphosate and glyphosateefungicide combinations improved the management of CLS in four commercial varieties of glyphosate-resi...
متن کاملFluctuations in number of Cercospora beticola conidia in relationship to environment and disease severity in sugar beet.
Cercospora leaf spot, caused by Cercospora beticola, is the most damaging foliar disease of sugar beet in Minnesota (MN) and North Dakota (ND). Research was conducted to characterize the temporal progression of aerial concentration of C. beticola conidia in association with the environment and disease severity in sugar beet. In 2003 and 2004, volumetric spore traps were placed within inoculated...

infection process including spore germination, penetration and intercellular development of cercospora beticola in the mesophyll of immature and mature leaves of two resistant (fd0018 and hm1836) and a susceptible genotypes (236) of sugar beet were studied, in order to determine the relative importance of defense phenomena in pre and post-penetration stage of infection to the pathogen in sugar...
متن کاملFactors affecting the onset of cercospora leaf spot epidemics in sugar beet and establishment of disease-monitoring thresholds.
ABSTRACT Severe Cercospora leaf spots epidemics in sugar beet during the late 1980s and early 1990s in southern Germany prompted us to initiate investigations on the epidemiology of the causal agent, Cercospora beticola. The data set involved 69 field trials (1993 to 2003) focusing on factors affecting the epidemic onset of this disease. Observations were made at weekly intervals, recording the...
