Time-space practices of care after a family death in urban Senegal

This paper contributes to studies of care practices and ethics beyond the Minority world by analysing informal caringscapes after a family death in urban Senegal. Based on findings qualitative study cities Dakar Kaolack, we explore exchanges living for period immediately following death, changes these over longer term. We focus mobilities changing roles lives time. demonstrate central significance commitments concern wellbeing ‘family’ caring exchanges. suggest that deeply relational understanding personhood as bound up with community underlies many current Senegal challenges conceptualisations interdependencies.
